Age-old question. Tire chains?

Yesterday I loaded up the sleds and various assorted crap we haul into our cabin on the snowmbiles. Got up this morning to check weather and road reports for Oregon. Ah crap! What?! Oregon DOT saying that chains required for a couple portions of the freeway.

Decided to leave everything loaded and go next weekend. My question is- Is it even worth it to have a set of cable chains to use for emergencies (as in having chains required coming home) and to meet *chains required*? Just running stock tire size 245/75R/16.

Well yes if you need to get back home or your stranded. I use S cables on last 3 Gm trucks they work fine for me and always able to get around everyone else and make it home. Plus is there simple to install no lifting of tires needed. I dont know if there a legal replacement in Oregon for chains.
