List of all systems that need Firmware updates

Hi All,

 

I am going to take my 2015 GMC Sierra in for the headlight upgrade, and I figured that, while the truck was in the shop, they could update all the computers/firmware/systems etc.

 

I was wondering what all has "firmware" that needs to be updated?

 

I am guessing:

 

Engine computer

Transmission computer

Infotainment system

 

But are there other systems that get updates on the 2015 Sierra?

When they run your VIN they will find any open special policies, etc. that need to be done (transfer case reprogram that's out there, etc.)

 

As far as just "updating" other things (MyLink, OnStar, ECM, TCM, etc.) unless you have a problem, and GM has a reprogram fix for it, they don't just "update" at your request under warranty. Now, if you wanted it done, it may and most likely be at your expense.

 

Again, 99% of updates and reprograms are for issues that customers experience. There are no periodic updates like say, your smartphone or a Windows computer.

Any list would depend on the s/n of the vehicle in question -- because if it's build date, installed options and previous updates.

 

Like 15HDriver posted, the only way to generate the list is to run the serial number -- which they will do when doing the headlight update programming. (part of the headlight upgrade is reprogramming the voltage level applied to the bulbs).

 

My dealer almost always finds something that needs to be updated whenever we have a vehicle in (usually they are just on for one of the courtesy oil changes).

Correct, unless there is a specific open campaign out there like there is for the TCCM for the 4wd issue then the other modules are not changed unless the customer has a complaint that matches a known resolution for that module that involves a update to that module.
