AudioControl LC7I and Factory Radio

Hello everyone!

This is my first post to the forums and I'm looking for some information concerning the output signal of the factory MyLink radio. I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 Allstar Edition Double cab with the 8" MyLink radio WITHOUT bose.

My first questions is does the factory HU have bass rolloff at higher volumes? The second question is does this HU output a flat signal, or is there an EQ curve applied?

I have installed the AudioControl LC7i with the front outputs to channel 1 and the rear outputs to channel 2. The LC7I is connected via RCA to a Pioneer GM-D9605.

I am planning to install a MiniDSP C-DSP 6x8 processor between the LC7i and amplifier, but before I order this part, I'd like to know what I'm going to be dealing with as far as the factory signal is concerned.

Currently installed:

AudioControl LC7I Line output converter

Pioneer GM-D9605 5 Channel Amplifier (100x4 & 600x1 @ 2 ohms)

(2) Pioneer TS-SW2502S4 10" Subwoofers (Wired 2 Ohm)

(2) Pioneer 2 Way TS-D1730C 6.5" Woofer, 1" Dome Tweeter w/Passive Crossover

Wish I could help but I've only seen someone grab an output frequency readout off the Bose amp, not the non Bose unit.

You might be able to do some testing your self with an RTA app for iPhone if you use that device.

Nice work on that amp rack, look forward to your other pics.

I've got a '15 version of your truck w/ 8" Non-Bose system. Did you verify the rear seat fitment with the amps mounted? Crew cabs, the seat folds out when down, on double cab the seat back is fixed, just curious. As for the signal out of the HU, I looked for info, didn't really find anything, having listened to mine as a stock system and now amplified with different speakers, for the most part I think the signal is mostly flat, maybe a little cut at higher levels. HU output does seem to be clear all the way to full volume. Mine is setup with a low gain setting on the amp that allows me to run the HU at a range of 1/3 to 2/3 volume for 90%. Signal seems to be relatively flat across that range.

Not an Iphone guy, but thinking of getting a scope just for this...and to have a scope because why not?

Everything does indeed fit, the amp rack is a 1/4" sheet of plywood carpeted, the amp is 2-3/8" and with the rear seats down there is less than 1/16th" of clearance. My advice to anyone who is doing this install is to use an amp with a height of 2-1/4" or less.

I can also verify that this system is clean at higher levels, I can run on full volume on the Head unit with the amplifier gains set low, the LC7I output set @ 75% and it is crystal clear. Sitting in the back seat is brutal at full volume with Deadmau5 - Avarita playing. The highs are crystal clear and the lows will kick you in the chest.

Only thing that is missing is a sound processor, but I don't want to jump on that until I know what the factory HU is doing output wise.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share some pictures of the build, everything is re-assembled now, everything looks stock except the sub box under the rear seats and the tweeters I installed in rear pillars above the rear seat belts.

All connections were soldered and heat shrinked, all wiring was secured with zip ties. Wires were run through factory wire chase on each side of vehicle as well as through the head liner behind the side curtain air bags. I tapped the rear speakers for the LC7I in the center pillar and the front speakers behind the head unit at the dash.

Cynical, I see you have the 2 way 1730 pioneers. I have those sitting downstairs. What are your thoughts on them. Have you listened to them yet? Waiting on my metra connector to get it all installed but curious on your impression on them. I also was looking at many boxes from soundoff, subthump, supercrewsound..ect. Are u happy with it? Subthump doesn't list it on their site but was curious on the box MDF thickness. Is it 5/8 or 3/4. Not to keen on a box with 5/8 as there is a lot of flex..

OK cool. I'd also be interested in your before and after thoughts on the DSP. From what I've read there isn't a bunch of processing programmed into the radio from the factory so I'm curious on the difference once hooked up. I'm running a 12 inch sub behind my center console with a classic Profile California 600 amp with the gain set to max 275 watts RMS. With that setting and cranking the radio the bass is phenomenal and I don't hear it rolling off as the volume increases. So I'm wondering where/ if they have rolloff or tuning down to the highs mids and lows. Glad you like the components. Def making me itch to get them in...just waiting on installer.com to send me the damn connector. Almost a month now and the only seller I can find for it[emoji36]

I grabbed a pink noise file from this site and looped it bunch of times in audio software to make a 5 minute wav file for testing.

Using the free RTA Lite app (maker says it is optimized for accurate readings with iphone/ipad mic) I got the following curves off the Bose setup with JL sub.

I am pretty pleased with how they look and confirms the sound quality I am experiencing.

I took the readings in the truck parked and engine off, volume around halfway, with phone held about ear level in the driver seat, (who is all I care about )

First curve is with the bass knob on the sub turned all the way down, and the fader set 1 click back to ease off the front dash speakers a bit which I think are too loud.

Second curve is where I typically run the sub about 11 o'clock to compensate for engine and road noise.

Anyway I thought I would share in case you don't want to spring for a scope you can just borrow somebody's iPhone and find out what you need.

Crewl1, that looks relatively flat compared to a few others I've seen. Obviously some minor tweaking needed but not bad. Crewl...question for you. When you did your wiring for the radio did you use metra connectors?...specifically the 71-2107? I ordered one from installer.com but they say they need a min order and its been a ******* month now. Didn't know if you had it and new another place to order from? thanks..
