2016 MyLink Navigation Update?

I recently received a notice from GM, saying that if I wanted the 2016 Navigation update (v.2016, Part number 23376725) to my existing MyLink system, that it would cost me $159.00.

 

Does anyone have a better solution for getting the upgraded map? Thanks - Rick

No way around it. Even the download is VIN specific.

This is why I never get vehicles with NAV in them. Probably a small amount to do and a massive GM markup. But all the other manufactures do the same thing.

Funny story:

 

I argued with my dealership when I bought my 2015. I didn't need nav but it was already in the truck. The salesman, sales manager, service manager, and customer service manager all tried to tell me that when GM went to hard-drive-based nav they send out updates automatically over the air. I argued with all of them for days and told them to check their sources. I based my price on not getting free updates. After a few days they called me to see how the truck was doing. I asked them when I would be getting my free map update. They had to eat crow and say they were wrong.

 

I don't care since I negotiated the purchase price knowing that I would NOT get free updates but I loved telling them "I told you so!". They haven't called me since ...

This is where Car Play is nice. You always get the latest map using apple maps. I wish carp play was Waze compatible. One can only hope.
