State Farm is a joke! A lady they insured backed into my 2011 Silverado, and they refused to pay what the body shop was calling for to fix my truck the correct way with good parts.

The body shop I went to is well known for their quality work. State Farm will not even deal with them directly. The two times that they had to have someone look at my truck they sent a rollback from a towing company to pick it up and drive it to a "neutral" location so they could look at it. They even went as far as calling the body shop hostile all because they wouldn't fix the truck the cheap way like they wanted them to.

I ended up submitting the claim to my insurance company after two months of arguing over the phone with State Farm and making trips an hour away to the body shop to go over things with them. My insurance covered the whole repair without any fuss, not one word. They even waived my deductible.

In this line of business insurance companies make the rules. Period.

A great body shop can turn out great work. Hell, that's what we're all about. The catch is that insurance companies all have a specific methodology of how the process has to move forward. Normally, the smaller/private body shops aren't willing to work with insurance companies because of the different processes each insurance company requires for repairs to take place.

Sure, the shop you chose probably does great work, but if they aren't willing to work with the insurance company with labor rates/parts brands etc then they have the right to refuse to work with that shop. The insurance company is paying for the repair so it's their right.

I wouldn't doubt if the shop may have been hostile. In their defense, they have a customer who wants them to do the Orkney. They want the job to make some money. They don't want to have to agree to the insurance company's rates. Insurance company doesn't release vehicle to that shop for repairs.

So what is the "cheap way" of fixing a vehicle?

If you spoke with the shop's estimator then he/she can tell you exactly why it's still sitting.

The way I see it it's my truck, and I'm making the payment so when I want it fixed correctly that's how it should get done.

State Farm isn't concerned with repairing it the correct way they just want it done as cheap as possible. You know this for sure when the adjuster tells you that he wouldn't even have it repainted because the original paint is the best you'll get. Yea okay. That's why this new paint is the worst people have ever seen. Give me a break.

If it was all the body shops fault then why did my insurance company who's rates are much lower than State Farm agree to fix it without any hassel?

Point is fellas, there are SO MANY things/reasons/arguing/parts needed/headaches going on behind the scenes that the claimant/insured knows nothing about ....... It makes my job that much harder.

The best thing any of y'all can do is ask the person who wrote the estimate for you. They are in direct contact with the insurance companies involved and will have the answers (hopefully) you seek.

I spoke with the manager, its simple they take for ever to pay,

I can vouch for that also. When they sent the first check out to the shop that was more than $600 under of what was needed to fix the truck it took them weeks to get it to the shop.

I don't have an answer for you. Again, it's insurance "politics" that reign supreme and have the body shop by the nuts every time.

Yea, it's a lot like dealing with the Government. All about the money, and finding the easiest way to get the most from you while giving out as little as possible.

Yup.

If I could shake your hand, I would.

This is a great business to be in, but sometimes it sucks just as much.

That's because the first check was for the original estimate. The second check is meant to cover the supplement of additional costs/repairs to the original estimate.

The shop can stop the vehicle from being released if they aren't able to confirm the insurance company has issued the supplement check OR if there's no confirmation of whether the check was sent to the shop or the vehicle owner. You'd be surprised at how many times the insurance company inadvertently sends the check to the owner unbeknownst to the shop and the shop gets screwed out of the payment balance.
