2016 sierra slt wrecked...

I am guessing the F-150 wouldn't even have a ding in it as the aluminum is not paper thin like these trucks, the aluminum is getting ready to get even thinner and MUCH stronger at the same time. I don't hear Ford guys complaining like we do about denting their trucks when they are hand washing them...

I slightly touched the front fender of my wife's new Denali with the door of my Super Duty, and put a huge dent in it.

I was so POed at myself. I did it the day before we left on vacation.

Thankfully, I have a friend in the dent repair business who services dealerships, and because the steel is so thin, he worked the dent right back out to perfection.

He did it before we got back, and he wobbled the dent right back out where it completely disappeared.

He said the steel is so thin that it's a joke.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to 2018 when these trucks are aluminum alloy like Ford.

Some states total all frame damage and some repair or replace. Sorry but no way that one will be totaled if you live on a frame repair state. They will buy a used frame from another total and swap it over. Make darn sure they use only new OEM parts as they will try to push aftermarket parts on you too without saying so. Your best best is to take repaired delivery, get a diminished value check and trade that baby off before the dirty carfax hits. If done right, you will break even and not lose too much. Good luck.

Glad you're alive! I can't see the pictures posted in the thread right now (DNS issues at work) but if they decide to fix you I would personally fight tooth and nail to get a new vehicle. Less than a week old and you've already lost half the value of your vehicle. Replacement is the only fair option for the consumer in this case.

1500s can be rated up to 10,000lbs for towing. Which should be fine for this.

Actually 12,000lbs. Really impressive that the modern day 1500 can two over 10,000lbs now.

Hope it goes well, glad you are OK, u just never know when things can happen, if not a total look into diminish value, there's another guy on here going thru it, but I hope they total it for you,

As far as towing u will be fine ivtow 10 and its fine,

I had a 2015 Silverado LTZ that got totaled but it was a pain in the ass. My insurance company, no longer, said they would handle everything for me. It was their fault but hell what did I know. I went 6 rounds of we're going to total it then no we're not.... I've got emails, online screen shots that it was totaled etc. Finally I said screw you guys and had the "at fault" insurance company take care of it. They totaled it. I also had a bent frame with plenty of damage. They were going to order a new frame plus all the parts etc.

Your best bet is to see if their insurance will deal with it. They might be willing to total it based on a guaranteed bid from IAAI. That plus the damage might put you over the magic mark of totaling it.

Glad your o.k. I know from personal experience, like you, that the 5 star crash rating is legit.

Keep reminding them of your medical issues, and don't wait to do it.

Thanks for the well wishes... Well not looking to good so far, State farm (the other drivers insurance) did accept liability and did a very preliminary and basic estimate of 8k. Not including the frame or the floor damage because they can't see it, and will need to wait till the body shop tears it down for further inspection.

State farm is already throwing terms around like "sectioning the 1/4 panels and pillars" which i personally find unacceptable on a vehicle this new. They are paying for new doors though so far, and repair the damaged wheels.
I didn't argue with them yet, i took the truck and dropped it off at the dealers body shop. The dealers appraiser looked at there estimate and laughed saying they where at least 50 percent off on there initial estimate. They are going to remove the bed and entire interior and call state farm back for a more detailed estimate before they even order one part because of how low there estimate was. He's on the fence about whether they will total it or not.

They will likely total it I think. That is at least $12-15k damage with labor, and still the possibility of flaws. I wouldn't accept anything less than full on replacement even if I had to get a lawyer to call State Farm. State Farm is who I have and they are generally easy to work with in my experience. Good luck and glad you are all OK.

x2...at 99 miles on the odometer I wouldn't accept anything but a brand new truck with 100 miles on the odometer. No way I'd accept a fixed truck with that low of miles.

12 to 15 thousand will not get it totaled. You have to look at the cost of the vehicle and subtract that. Different states have different formulas but mine had to be close to 80% to total it.

After seeing the pictures now I think unfortunately you will have a heck of a fight on your hands. For your sake I hope you are able to get a new vehicle. But I must say the truck did an impressive job of keeping you safe and staying together.

Totally agree but unfortunately insurance companies are buttholes and have been for decades.

That is just unacceptable to require that much damage to total a vehicle. Questions why we all pay these premiums to get lack luster service when we need it most.

Because insurance is unregulated, they make up there own rules, health, auto, all of them, I love it, "youyr rates went up because you were do for a claim" BS!!!! but guess what, because they can, Insurance is the worst, its the one thing that you pay for, often required (auto) and then you have to fight for the service your already paying for, every year my rates go up, until Ive had enough shop it, drop my premiums, wait two/3 years, call back the company I left and rates are even cheaper then when I was there before, go figure

My 2014 got hit similar to that but closer to the front, it was like 10k to fix

Insurance company flipped the **** out and raised my rates even thought it wasn't my fault because it was a huge claim.

I think that insurance company and I would have a nice conversation about how that's not going to fly, and I'll be looking somewhere else for insurance. That's ridiculous.

OP, glad that your okay.

$8k is funny. I got rear ended in my 2015 All Terrain with 4K miles on the odo. Dented the bumper and bent a bumper bracket. No frame damage and it didn't even hit the bed. Just to replace the bumper (had to be painted too since they ship the bumpers unpainted) the total bill was almost $2k.
