Turning them not where the led is facing up smh.

Did you try flipping the bulb? I had issues where the dome lights didn't work when I put them in but if I flipped the bulb, they worked and haven't had any issue. Had the same thing with my tag light bulb too. Seems that although it's a "fuse style" bulb, it only works in one direction as an LED.

 

(I really hope that isn't a common knowledge thing and I just made myself look really stupid)

Flipping the bulb is not going to help or change the fact that the heat sink is longer than the prongs the light goes in. If you look at the pic of factory and led, the prongs are on the metal of the bulb right at the glass. The heatsink is longer than the glass in factory bulb.
