Zeke Racelis Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Hey, I'm new to the forum so I don't know if this is the right place to ask my question. I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT and someone just dented it. I am not paying for it since it was not my fault but I would still like a good estimate on how much it would cost to repair said dent. Would I be able to access the back of the panel to pop the dent out so I can just do it myself and choose the cash out option instead of taking it to the shop? I also want someone's opinion on how much the repair would cost so I can get a general idea and make sure if I do choose the cash out option the insurance adjuster is not low-balling me. (first time getting in an accident so I don't really know how much shops charge and most of the stuff I find in google are F-150s)
Jsdirt Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Don't know what part of the country you're at, but up here in the Northeast, body work is HUGE $$$. That dent, fixed right, would be over $1,000 easy around here. You could pound it out and paint it yourself, but if you live in the salt belt, anything less than base/clear paint will rust through in a few years. They don't build 'em like they used to, that's for sure. Been there, done this ... to the tune of $2,200. Backed into a little 4" sapling at less than walking speed - was almost stopped - and it bent the box so bad it had to go on a frame machine for an hour to get the tailgate to close. Crushed the right side bumper half, crushed the area under the tail light, and creased the box right above the rear axle centerline. I couldn't friggin believe it. Just like a Budweiser can ...
Zeke Racelis Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 I currently live in Louisiana (military). Hope that helps with estimating price.
Jsdirt Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Thanks for your service. Sorry I can't be of much help - closest I've ever been to LA was AL. I'd imagine it's much cheaper than up here in MA though.
