OEM rectangular step bolt size

I am selling my steps to a coworker, and we will be swapping them in a hotel parking lot. I need to know what size sockets I will need to do the swap, and also what other tools I will need. Any info is appreciated

The spring clip nut things need to be swapped or replaced. Replacing is faster... swapping is cheaper. It will be a pita to swap them all laying on your back in a parking lot

Where would I be able to get new ones? And how many do I need?

Well there are 2 per mount location, so you probably have 4 mounts per side. 16 total if you have 4 mounts per side. A GM parts dept can get them or you may be able to get them from a hardware vendor that sells nuts & bolts, I have no idea. Dunno the thread pitch either without looking it up, your dealer can do that for you... but they will likely be metric.

If you are removing yours and installing a different GM set, they will be included in your package already

Go to Autozone and buy new ones. They are usually called "speed nuts". You will need between 8 and 16 of them depending on how the mounting holes were drilled/punched. Some have the mounting holes pre-threaded or a nut welded to the frame (mostly the front mount points). Some trucks do not or may require the speed nuts only in the rear. You need the 8mm ones if using the factory suppled step bar bolts. They come 6 to a pack but they are packaged 3 6mm and 3 8mm. So, you will need a minimum of 3 packs (for 8) depending on the truck.

I was able to use the factory ones. You only need 4 for each side, as the front 2 sets of bolts screw into nuts that are already part of the truck body. Thanks for the help guys.
