Interior air filter - 99 Sierra

I have a 99 Sierra extended cab with the full center console up front.  Does anyone know how to get at the interior air filter that's supposedly under/behind the dash somewhere?

I just got ripped on these, I paid $30.00 + on the filters. Where can I get these filters "aftermarket"?

I needed them but prob... should have waited.

I emailed those guys to tell them that the bolt holding the clamp does not need to be removed nor even loosened - the other end (top) of the clamp can be unhooked with a flat blade screwdriver then it just moves out of the way, and then easily snaps back in place.

The clamp may possibly break after repeated filter changes , but is also another way to remove the bracket...More than one way to skin a cat.

The cab filters can be cleaned. I took mine out, back blew with compressed air, then inserted air nozzle in between each pleat and blew out large material that was stuck in pleats, sprayed with 409 let set for a few minutes and then back flush rinse the filter with water. Do not use high pressure water to back flush rinse. I then used wet vac to suck out most of the water and put them in the sun to dry.

 

I have done this three times and have had no problems.

 

It takes a little time but saves $30.

Good idea. Not like it is really important air coming in the cab. As long as it keeps the major dust and crap out that is all I care. Thanks for the tip.

Does every truck have a cabin filter? I have a '99 new body style base model, but I was wondering if this was something that only came in the LS and LT models.

Fram makes the cabin air filter but I don't have the part number any longer. Most chain-type parts stores won't have them in stock but you can get the number from a Fram catalog.

 

I did find out that there are two different cabin air filters from AC Delco for my 99 Silverado. There is a CF104 (GM 52485513) that is a "standard" filter. The other one is CF107C (12489479) that is an "Odor and Particle" filter. This one appears to be charcoal-impregnated and made in Germany.

I was in Pep Boys today and saw this:

Shelf tag (everyday price, standard in-store stock) $9.99

Box contains two filters, box is printed that it has two filters in it.

 

There was only one on the shelf, but other types for Chryslers' and Fords there was only one. Being standard stock item, I would imagine if they were out that it would only be 3-5 days to get one.

 

So why are these $22 on some of the web sites. Even the Fram's are $22 for one, but are never in stock anywhere.
