Retractable Running Boards

2013 LTZ with Retractable running boards. I never even knew they existed. Are they a problem ?

I could buy the truck for a fair price, but I don't want to be dealing with a headache.

I wouldnt have any concern with them if they were professionally installed. if you are worried get them in the down position and unhook a wire to stop them from going up and down

I believe these are factory OEM running boards. There is a factory button on the dash to disable them. And I know they were available on the Escalade. Never knew they were available on the Burb.

Is it a truck or a Suburban?

If it's a 2013 Silverado they are NOT factory (they were not available on the trucks until 2016) but there are only 2 brands out there: Bestop (http://www.bestop.com) and Amp (http://www.amp-research.com). Most online reviews say the Bestops are junk but the Amps are great if they were installed correctly.

I wouldn't worry about buying the truck. Worst case the boards stop working and you can lock them in the down position. Or you can always remove them very easily and replace them with something else (the newer trucks have running board mounting locations built right into the rocker panels).

FWIW - I just bought a 2015 Silverado in November and immediately put the Amp boards on. They are GREAT! They survived the ice and snow with no problems and extend to just the right height to make getting in and out easy.

It's a Suburban LTZ 2013. Is there a chance they are factory ?? I know the Escalades had them as an option.

My '11 Tahoe LTZ has them, factory option. Stock ones have a disable switch on dash under the radio.

Okay since this post was in the "Silverado/Sierra 1500" forums I assumed it was a truck.

The SUV's had them available from the factory on LTZ. I still wouldn't be concerned about them. If they stop working you can either let them in either position or try to find a set online and replace them.

So I have the Suburban with the factory retractable running boards. They have a different feel than my Tahoe with fixed running boards. Maybe a different width, or height off the ground, but a totally different feel when getting in/out of the truck. I wish I brought a truck with fixed running boards, I don't really like the tractable ones.
