8.1L in a 1500

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has put one of the 8.1L Vortec engines into a 1500 Silverado Reg Cab? I saw this on Trucks! one weekend and just wondering about it. I know right now you can get the engine for the marine market. Who sells the mount kits for it? How much is the engine?

I don't know about the Vortec 8100, but I met this guy at a car wash that said he has a 496 in his s-10...Kinda hard to believe, but I guess you could do it?

Before you start the project, check your credit line - it will be a big undertaking - you also need to consider the driveline - the 1500 4L60E will not survive mating with the 8.1L very long.

I think that you will also have to replace the entire control system, PCM, etc.

It could easily be a $10,000 project IMHO.

The one on trucks was a 2500HD frame that was shortened. Then he put a 1500 bed on it.

Just get a 2500 with the 8.1, send it to Lingenfelter, have him put on his twin turbo setup and then you will have a truck that runs the 1/4 as fast as a vette.
