2015 Sierra Weathertech Bug Deflector

Hello all,

My first post here to this forums. I have a question to anyone that might have a Weathertech Bug Deflector. I got mine yesterday and installed it. There are two metal clips on each end that attach to the hood over some 3m protective tape (so they say). I was kind of weary about the clips and now today I am really thinking about this clips and not really to sure I like the idea of them being on the hood even though protected by this film. Im thinking they will eventually wear right through the film. Anyone have any ideas on how to maybe enforce this film better to wear it wouldn't wear through. Or does anyone already have any horror stories of this. Or should I be ok. I'm to the point already after 1 day of taking it off and biting the cost of it to replace it with something else. Truck has 3,000 miles and already have 5 chips on the front end I touched up. Any idea or suggestions I'm open to it. Except the clear bra on the front end. I do know about that and will do when I buy me next truck. Just looking for suggestions or ideas towards the weathertech deflector.

Thanks

Ended up thinking some type of thin rubber to help prevent vibration on it. So went to store and bought some bike inner tube and cut that up in strips. It was too thick to put on both sides of hood but was able to get it at least on the top part in between the hood and clip. Seems ok guess I'll see if it works.

I have this chrome one from GM and I am really happy with it. No chips.

I do like the real low profile look of the GM deflector. Couple guys at work have them on there silverados. Next truck I get I will have to work the salesman to get me one if I don't go the clear bra route. I don't want to have a deflector but gotta do something since this new paint is so damn soft thanks to the EPA.

I have that and got it maybe 1 month after buying the truck and got the truck 2 years ago. So far I haven't had any issues with it. My Silverado has all plastic clips that replace clips for the weather strip along the front of the hood. The clips are similar to the plastic clips that hold the plastic fan shroud down. So far no problems with it and it also hasn't moved at all.

so your plastic clips are clipped on over the hood like mine? That doesn't make you nervous about your paint on top of the hood? And at least yours are plastic

His truck is a Silverado, the mounting is different.

Read someplace that the Silverado's have 4 holes on the underside of the hood for mounting a hood deflector, the Sierra's do not have these holes. Rason for the tape and the clip that you are talking about.

I had a 2005 Silverado that mounted the same way the Weathertech mounts and out of the 5 years having the truck, I never had a problem.

It's good to hear at least people haven't had problems with mounting there weathertechs. I still just doc the rubber as a precaution. Just stupid that the same maker of two different model trucks can't make the same damn mounting holes on the underside like the Silverado.

I deleted my posts because I must have had a huge brain fart or something. The only Weathertech product I have are the window visors. My hoodshield is actually a Stampede. I guess I either got confused or something.

I will say though that I'm glad I got a Stampede. It installs without double sides tape or drilling. I made sure to do a lot of research because I didn't want to drill into a brand new hood and didn't want any double sided tape in case I wanted to take it off or replace with something else. On my Silverado, it has a weatherstrip along the underside of the front of the windshield held on with plastic clips similar to the ones that hold down the plastic cover that covers the whole radiator and latch area on the front. Basically just removed the right clips on the weatherstrip (leaving the others), held it up there and then replaced those clips with the ones that came with the hoodshield with longer clips. So no tape or drilling or bolts. Hasn't moved at all for the almost 2 years of having it on there.
