2008 GMC 1500 Passenger Seat Belt Sensor failure

My front passenger seat sometimes fails to register that the seat belt is buckle when someone is inthe seat. It comes and goes. The airbag does turn on, but the not wearing seat belt light comes on and the truck chimes. Has anyone had this problem and what was the fix?

Did you check the connector under the seat to see if it it loose?

I'd check this before anything else. In my truck the idiot light always stays on for the seat belt warning, even after I buckled up. Fortunately, unplugging it turned the light off with no other side effects. I always wear my seat belt so I don't miss the idiot light coming on.

I worked with the connector. The problem is if I unplug it then the sensor does not turn on the airbag.

I'd have the truck scanned to see if there are any codes. You may have another problem such as a crash sensor has gone out.
