I have a 2015 LTZ with perforated black seats. So everything is black inside. What are your thoughts on changing to Katzkin As or dune seat covers?

 

I don't want to make my truck look strange but I would like to lighten the interior. I am leaning to the ash which is a grey color. Will it look strange with the black seat bases etc?

It should look good. Look at interior pictures of newer Cadillac Escalade - some have a base color of black with seat covers and trim in a contrasting color.

I'm looking to do something like this also. I have the cocoa /dune interior and want to add the Katzkin Rawlings or a brownish leather color. Would need some of the brown interior accessories from a High Country. ? Anyone know what parts would be needed - or which manual for part numbers?

Too bad you're not in Colorado. I'd trade you straight across. I have the gray, but wanted the black.

I have a 2015 crew cab with the ebony leather interior and am thinking about changing to the light gray factory cloth instead, there are always people selling takeoffs on Ebay. I like a lighter color and don't like how the leather gets really hot or cold depending on the weather. A local guy told me that 2016 covers will fit 2014-15's, he says the front seat hard plastic back is gone in 2016, it's part of the seat cover, but they'll still fit - but I'm not 100% convinced. Some Ebay upholstery shops selling takeoffs say 2016 covers only fit 2016 trucks, others say they'll fit 2014-15 too. Also found a video showing a custom leather shop taking out the seats and replacing the covers. Looks time consuming but not terribly difficult.

 

Anybody have any experience do-it-yourselfing a seat cover swap? Anybody try putting 2016 covers on a 2014 or 15?

I am not sure if it will, but I have seen cloth take offs and they are cheep enough to try? I will say I traded my 2015 Silverado in on a 2016 Yukon with cloth. I like the cloth better even thought I had heated and cooled seats in the Silvy. The thing I miss about leather is the easy cleaning, smell, and looks. I do miss the cooled seats even with cloth but nothing like the heat of leather in the sun. I have black cloth seats.

For what it's worth I emailed an Ebay seller who claims that they're a shop that installs leather covers and that they've successfully installed 2016 seats into 2015 trucks, you just have to leave the hard plastic back that's found in the 2015's off after the install.

The katzkins are very nice, but they're a bit of work if you don't have them professionally installed. But they sure look great when they are installed right!

For about half-price you can get the clazzio seat covers. They go over the cloth seats, instead of taking off the seat covers and reupholstering them. They fit tight and look great as well.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.

      To me it honestly makes zero difference what filter you run. It's not a race engine, just a truck engine that's mostly bumming highways and it just needs a filter that filters oil.   The filter used to be a 7060 and the long version was a 7045. Now it's the newer updated filter that the K2XX trucks and newer run, the 100255 I believe if we are using napa numbers. Any of those filters is going to do the job.   I wouldn't overthink it, to me it makes no difference because those first filter numbers worked for 18+ years before the spec suddenly changed.
