Toolbox vs Under Seat Storage

Hello I had my tool box on my truck for 1yr however I been considering moving to an under seat storage due to receiving more space as oppose to a toolbox I have the standard bed so the extra space will help and I like the look without. My question to everyone is would I be making a mistake for going with the Under seat I know my 5 gallon air tank won't be coming with me, but would a 4 way lug wrench and 2 jack stands fit? Please share thoughts and comments if you would stick a toolbox or go with under seat storage. Thanks.

Ps. hope the oem is the best/easiest install.

Install for the OEM is very easy, but it definitely will not fit a 4-way lug wrench and two jack-stands. Dimensions for the Extended Cab one are 60 x 9 x 17 inches:

Don't get me wrong, it's very nice to have, but I don't think it could be used to replace a toolbox.

Thanks for the info, but I have a crew cab hope that increases enough space.

You could probably get a foldable 4 way lug wrench and 2 jackstands into an underseat storage. It is probably a smaller compartment than you think. I highly suggest seeing one in person before pulling the trigger.

I have one and keep a tool kit, mini air compressor, gloves, paper towels, and some other misc things in there. Still have some room left.

Yeah... I'm in the camp that if you had a foldable 4 way, or a miniature one you could get that under there. And I don't see any type of jack stand fit under there honestly unless there may be some really narrow 3 ton units.

I picked up mine last week and the under seat storage was part of the Costco limited edition package.

I have a first-aid kit under there, a small cardboard box with some little 4oz spray bottles of detail sprays, another box with microfiber towels, a couple of tiny fold up umbrellas and if I'm lucky I can get the OEM windshield sunscreen that folds up underneath there and that's pretty much it.

It's nice to have it there, because it's better than just having loose stuff under the seat ... but it's pretty small overall.

I bought the truck to use the bed, not be taken up a 1/3 of it by a tool box. I have the underseat storage and recently added a battery box under the hood. I have 4 tie downs, football, bungee chords, duct tape, few tools, blanket, seating pad, 30 ft tow strap, 6 ft tree strap, 2 shackles, wheel strap, flashlights and a few other things I can't think of with some space to spare. I will be putting a small portable compressor under there as well (probably an MV 50). It's pretty big, why are you carrying jack stands?

When I leave the city on trips I pack more (small tool set, hi-lift, jumper box, ect) but I don't carry them around with me daily.

I have a DuHa and have enough tools to tear the entire truck apart stowed under the rear seat, plus all my winch accessories, straps, jumper cables, etc. When I travel, I throw a box of miscellaneous stuff in the bed...extra fluids, etc.

I try to keep the floor area clear for when I fold the seat(s) up for secure loading. Do you need to haul this stuff around all of the time or can it be kept in a container (Rubbermaid) and tossed in the back when needed? I have a full width aluminum tool box in the cargo area and keep it pretty empty and available for additional secure storage. I keep basics such as first-aid kit, Leatherman, wipes, tire pressure gauge etc. in lower storage bin between front seats. Tools, trailering equipment or "off the beaten path" supplies are loaded when needed and removed when no longer required. I am retired but when I used a personal vehicle on the job, I removed my tools at night. Unlike other co-workers I never had a window broken by nighttime fortune seekers!
