Gear change and computer

Ok, walk me through this...

My 2012 was built with 3.73s, and while I was looking for a 4.10 truck at the time; this one was everything else we were looking for. I've been out of this aspect for quite a while because I have owned nothing but Cummins' for the past nearly 20 years...didn't need to worry about it for that reason. I do enough towing/hauling with this truck to justify a swap...if I do a swap, I would probably keep the truck longer.

Say I wanted to swap to 4.10s or even 4.56s, I want to remember both carriers are good to 4.56 (Corp 14-bolt and 9.25" AAM). What needs done to make the computer play well with the new gears? I'm assuming this is something that can be reprogrammed?

I've done gears before on my own junk, but would probably have a local shop do the work for time constraints...but I do understand what is involved mechanically, just don't know how the computer works. On the Dodges, the speed was pulled from the tone ring in the differential, so swapping gears made no issues with the computer, trans, or speedo since the tone ring was a fixed variable.
