DL8 non-folding to DL3 folding conversion

A number of forum members have contacted me regarding this upgrade. Here is a list of basic things to check for BEFORE buying mirrors, switches or harnesses.

1. Remove drivers door panel and check the mirror harness plug X510 for the wires need for folding at pins 4(Grey/white) & 18(White/green) needed for folding.

2. Remove the passenger side door panel and check the mirror harness plug X610 for the same wires in pins 4(Grey/white) & 18(White/green) needed for folding.

2b. Optionally also check plug X510 drivers side mirror harness for wires in pins 1(Grey/Lt.Green), 2(*), 5(Black), 13(Red/Blue) needed for puddle LEDs and Turn LEDs.

2c. Optionally also check plug X610 passenger side mirror harness for wires in pins 1(Grey/Lt.Green), 2(*), 5(Black), 13(Green/Violet) needed for puddle LEDs and Turn LEDs.

3. Unplug the driver's door switch harness to see what the bottom plug looks like so you can get the proper switch since there are at least 2 types. GM tilt/fold switch #23154702 has symmetrical plug keying(as shown below). Check your plug and if it doesn't look like the one in the picture you likely need GM #23488411 tilt/fold switch/plug which has non-symmetrical plug keying.

4. If you have the wires as needed above in the mirror harness then you have a better chance it will work. I of course am not going to say positively yours will work too. I suggest you contact your GM parts counter for specific information on your truck. Unfortunately GM changes wiring and components on the fly. I found this out the hard way($$) buying the wrong fold switch. Do yourself a favor and spend a few minutes at the parts counter.

(*Pin 2) Dealer instructions says this wire/pin is needed but it doesn't show up in wiring information.

On my 2014 LT built in Fort Wayne, for the Puddle and Turn LEDs to be cheap I will be adding the 3 wires on each door saving about $200 on replacement harnesses. I will post an update in a few weeks on how this goes.
