Hello Guys,

My truck has the 20" chrome clad wheels. I am just curious as to wheather the "clad" can be removed and what is behind? Any others here have any input?

They are basically plastic wheel covers. They are glued on there. You will have an aluminum rim under it.

Yes, Chrysler started with this crap on my '03 300M. Not so much a removable wheel cover, more like a composite finished wheel. A cheap way to make a wheel look like it is a real chrome plated wheel and get the same price for it......but it is not chrome plated or likely even chrome!

 

A chrome "clad" wheel is basically a raw aluminum alloy wheel faced with a separate finished disk which snaps (glued?) onto recesses on the "unfinished" wheel. So do not attempt to remove them or you'll find that what is underneath will likely look like crap.

 

In Chrysler's clad wheel which looked like GM's except for the logo, the finished disk itself was polished stainless steel covered with a protective polymer surface. I complained at the time to Dieter, the head of Daimler because the window sticker claimed "chrome alloy wheels" (which they later changed that year to "clad") and as compensation Chrysler sent me a check for $800 to buy real ones. I kept them, and the money, because regardless, they looked good and were easier to clean than real chrome wheels.......no scrubbing.....a good rain, or you could piss on them and the dirt rolled off!

This is a legit question. I know the wheels on the NNBS looked sweet without the cladding. It was a 6 spoke.

I looked at all makes of trucks before I settled on my 2014 silvy and at the time the RAM was at the top of my list. What bugged me the most about it was the 20 inch plasic chrome rims, was a big turn off for me (plus the cheap interior). When truck shopping I noticed that Ford also offers the plastic chrome rims on their higher end trucks which is strange to me. A higher end vehicle should have real chrome covered rims.

I love my truck and the wheels are part of the STL Premium Plus Package, but in my opinion it is not the best looking wheel option not to mention that they are "clad" I really wanted the wheels below but I did not want to give up the Premium Plus Package to get them.

What may I ask was your "must have" option in the Premium plus package? I was looking at one with it but nothing I really had to have in their except the sliding window. I got a sunroof on my new one though.
