Hi Everyone,

I am a new 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 crew cab long bed owner and new to the pickup world. I am looking for some help from you pickup vets! Is there a tool box and tonneau cover integrated unit that is affordable? I was looking at the Truck Covers USA American Work Tonneau Cover which I love because the box and cover are all one unit but the price is way outside of my comfort zone. Does anyone know of another tool box/tonneau cover unit that is more affordable? I would be much more comfortable in the $1,000-$1,500 range.

I see they make covers that attach to existing tool boxes but I am afraid that route will leak where as the all in one integrated unit should be water tight. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!!!

this^^^ they're all over eBay and not too expensive, either!

I looked into the BAK revolver2 with box and it does look pretty good. Only issue I see is having to remove the cover anytime I want to access the items in the box. Not the end of the world and unless I want to spend big$ I guess I don't really have another option.

Thanks for responding, I greatly appreciate it!

I guess you could have bought a ram and gotten the ram box, and then gotten a cheapo tonneau cover.. but then you'd have have a ram.. and well.. ill just leave that one at that..

idk which tonneau cover you planned on getting, but what if you got the BAK tool box but then got one of the trifold covers, you should be able to open them from either end without removing the entire cover. My neighbor has one on his 14 that does that... not positive on the brand though

Hey the RAM box adds to the manliness of the Ram.. It keeps it one step ahead of the girlie Fords.

If I wanted a Ram box I would have put my high heels on and bought one ahahhaha! I think my problem is I want everything of the $2800 setup in a $1200 setup which isn't going to happen lol. Think I will end up going with the BAK revolver X2 and bak box, reviews are great!

Thanks for all the input!!!

If you do get the revolver, let us know what you think of it. Pictures are worth a thouand words! id like to get one as well, but need to make sure it rolls up far enough. I haul my dirt bikes in the bed and want to make sure it wont interfere. I saw a video of it with a bike but the viewing angle kinda sucked..

Jlash, I will definitely respond back once I pull the trigger. I am leaning that way as of now but not 100% and still have to get my spray bed liner done before I move forward with the tonneau cover. I also will be hauling dirtbikes and quads but I believe it will be fine since the cover rolls up over the bedrail leaving the entire bed.

This one looks like the best for me. I have a 60 gallon auxiliary fuel tank in mine, and this will fit over it and allow access to the filler.

I haven't bought it yet, though. The sides of this truck are so high I don't really have much access to the bed unless I climb up into it.

Purchased mine with toolbox about 10 months- 12 months ago. The pricing should be the same. It's never leaked. Tool box isn't your normal tool box. It's more of a tool bin that fits under the cover. So that could be a deal breaker if you already have a bed tool box. This cover pretty much makes your whole bed a tool box though. They are American made in Ohio.

SE is $1100

HD is $1499

Accessories page has the toolboxes you can add.

I have a Diamondback SE and I love it. The tool bin fits plenty of the smaller tools I carry. But having the rest of the bed waterproof and lockable is what sold me.

Alright, bed liner is being sprayed today and I decided to order the BAK Revolver X2. Soooo many nice covers out there it was tough but this seemed like the best of all worlds for me. Thanks for all of the info you all provided above, it was definitely helpful. I will let you guys know how the tonneau cover install goes once bed liner is done.

    • Welcome back! No, it definitely doesn't pass the sniff test. Even "ceasefire" needs an alternative definition these days.    $5.29 at Kroger today
    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
