Autostart malfunction

My 2010 Sierra's autostart decided to stop working this morning, and I now have a check engine light. How/where should I look to begin trouble shooting?

The remote start issue didn't cause the check engine light. The check engine light disables remote start, you have some other issue

Start by scanning for that check engine light. Hollywood hit it on the head. CEL disables remote start. Fix the light and the remote will work again.
