AC Blower Noise

2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab... 41,000 miles..replaced the cabin filter (no biggy, 4 screw, 2 clips) with a NAPA replacement filter... after I put it back together I turned on the AC in auto mode and it sounded like a piper cub trying to take off, loud roaring noise. Immediately stopped and put the original filter back in, same way it came out. Turned it back on and same noise, all vents were checked to assure that they were open. Noise starts as fan runs in max mode, as the auto function gets closer to the desired temp the fan slows down and the noise diminishes. This cant be the same issue some have seen with ice build up, temps here are running 95+ with a heat index of 104

What could it be? At 41,000miles (5,000 over bumper to bumper warranty) dealer probably wont cover it under warranty

Any help, advice, comments?

Most likely there was some debris on top of your filter, such as leaves, etc. When you pulled out your cabin filter, the debris was dragged off the top of the filter and fell down into the the fan. There is a thread on the forum about replacing the cabin filter and this has happened to others. You need to remove whatever it is that fell into the fan.

You were correct. I had to remove the kick panel and drop the fan motor to remove one small leaf that had wrapped itself around two of the blades of the squirrel fan. Hard to believe one leaf could make that much noise

It's a real PITA, but I'm glad to hear you got the noise taken care of.
