Wheel Size upgrade is recalibration needed?

2016 Silverado Crew LT Z71, upgraded from 265/65/18 to 275/55/20 at dealer. Do I need any computer recalibration? Sounds like less than 1% difference in size. Dealer says I don't.

275/55/R20 is the stock tire size GM uses on trucks equipped with 20" wheels. Overall tire diameter of a 265/65/18 and 275/55/20 is near no difference (.2 inches). No need to change a thing. Bolt'em up!

I agree with the previous post. Most all of the OEM wheels and tires match up to the same overall height. This allows GM to use the same tire calibrations for the majority of the wheel and tire setups. It's also one of the reasons dealerships cant calibrate for tire sizes taller than the 20 and 22 inch wheel packages GM offers.

265/65/18 = 31.56"

275/55/20 = 31.91"

 

Just a hair over a 1/4" difference in tire height. GM uses the same exact rolling circumference for all of the available tire sizes that the 1500 series trucks are offered with.

I do think the OP has a good question and it would be good to know at what point tire diameter becomes a concern. The 17" wheels with 255/70r17 tires have a diameter of 31.1". The 20" wheels with 275/55r20 tires are 31.9". If I went with a tire that has a diameter of 32.1 (255/75r17 for example) this would be an inch taller than the base tire but only 0.2 taller than the optional tire.

Laura Buick GMC does several custom level and lift kits and they state that they recalibrate anything taller than 33's but don't on 33's. I remember reading this as well... it's been over a year... so I went with a 32.6 tire which was 1in taller than the stock crapyears that come on the 18's. I really didn't notice any difference when I had them installed at 12k miles.
