Trailer Towing Guys

For those without the "integrated/OEM" trailer brake controller here.................Where are y'all mounting your brake controller in the '14-'16 trucks???

There's not enough room under the steering wheel IMHO, or I'll be hitting it with my knees all time. I'd rather not put it on top of the dash either. Thanks in advance.

Pix would be great also!!

Someone on here posted a picture of a brake controller that fit into the factory brake slot. That would work well for you.

Wow!!!! I thought a "truck" forum would surely have more guys that tow................even the 1500 forum here!!! :dunno::omg:

Most of us probably have the integrated controller since we bought the truck to tow with.

When I had the colorado I put the aftermarket under the dash.

Thanks, but I hardly believe that.

I used one of the oem bolts at the bottom of the dash right below the steering wheel and right above the brake pedal. It's a pain but, no where else to put it. Sure wish I had the integrated brake control, seems odd to me that my truck can pull 9500#, MSRP was 48k and it wasn't ordered with the $250 trailer brake controller.... It fine once you get the brakes adjusted unless you want to tap the trailer brakes.... I don't tow a ton or maybe I'd find a better place, or I'd switch to hopkins flex. if I didn't have the center console I bet you could put it below the radio..

If that was the case there wouldn't be 150 pages and multiple threads on how to install tow mirrors if they were bought for towing jmho

I doubt many do tow. I tow a 9600lb trailer 5 days a week. But I get the max tow package in every work truck we have so I haven't really fooled with an aftermarket brake controller for awhile.

I tow the boat on the weekends. I didn't get the max tow. I would have liked it, but the truck I found at the right time for the right price just didn't have the factory trailer brake. My boat trailer doesn't have brakes anyway, although it would have been nice to add them. I wish I could have gotten it, but not the end of the world. Not every trailer on the road has brakes.

Most boat trailers are "surge brakes" and not electric.

Haha, see, shows how much I've looked into adding those brakes to my boat trailer. Ehh...I was mainly commenting on the "most bought the integrated controller because we tow" comment. I tow, only a few days here and there, but the integrated controller was not a must have for me. Since I can buy an aftermarket controller pretty cheaply, I'm not that worried about having one in the truck from factory.

I mounted mine to a screw holding in the bottom/back of the drop down tray (I use for spare change) in mine. I have a bench seat. Works perfectly, doesn't affect the tray and I didn't have to modify anything or drill holes. I can get some pics tomorrow if anyone would like to see.
