Getting a new garage door hopefully next week. I currently have the old flip-up type wooden door. Last night it did it's last flip. :chevy:

Just curious what any of you folks paid for a new steel roll-up door? This is your standard 16' two car garage door.

- 24 gauge steel

- sunburst window

- white long panel

- 1/2 horse operator

Just a door (no opener) runs about $499 for a 16x7 at menards locally i believe. This is for a 24 gauge insulated (not steel backed) with the sunrise pattern. Made by Ideal. Openers run anywhere from $130-$219 (chain, screw, or belt)

Cool. Thanks for the reply Ryan. :chevy:

I'm getting the whole shootin' match for $1090. That's the door, windows, operator, entrance keypad, installation, and hauling/disposal of old door.

I'm being told this same setup would run $1300 - $1400 through other places.

at menards

Funny thing…when I moved to Michigan years ago I didn’t know what Menard’s was and mistook it for a discount store....walked in felt like a dumazz then walked right back out. I guess I didn’t see all the lumber stacked outside. :chevy:

I guess Menard’s is another mid-western thing like 86 lumber yards, yucker, punchskies, sweetest day, Murray’s Auto Parts, Mieyer’s, Sunoco, Kohl’s, Tubby’s and countless other oddities that are not found in the southwestern states.

Not true Larry. Kohl's opened 17 stores in southern California on the same day in February. The one in our town is built along with the Lowe's hardware store.

No, no…not the retail clothing store Kohl’s….those are nation wide. I was talking about the little Kohl’s grocery stores that are around Iowa and Minnesota.

Sorry, bowtiepasta…didn’t mean to highjack your topic.

What opener are you going with? I am going to have to replace my moms 25 year old chain drive soon. Thinking about a gear driven Geanie. Any advice?

thats not a bad price. The installers usually charge like $300 so you got a god deal

Larry Menards is only a midwest thing. They opened their first store in Ohio last month

Hey now, I like my oddities. Sunoco is usually the exclusive provider of fuel to Big Blue. And I do have to say Murray's is sweet...we used to have Forest City Auto Parts...dumpy to say the least(bars on the windows even though they were in suburbia). Murray's is clean, well-stocked, helpful service. Of course I'll be moving a bit west of here in the fall into the sticks, so I'll have to find my new haunts.

That sounds good. One thing you might consider if it isn't too late is a side mounted opener. Jacking up a tall truck can be difficult with the usual center mounted opener. Lowes has a side mount that fits the door they sell.

wayne dalton has a front mounted (where the torsion spring is) garage door opener. A little more expensive but it saves install time and room

Wow guys, hadn't thought of that. Uugh, I hope it won't be a problem. They didn't mention that option.
