Comparing my newest truck to past trucks

Two days ago I was fortunate enough to purchase a 2016 Silverado, Crew, Z71. To begin Ive owned in the past a 2011, 2012, 2013 (Tahoe), 2014, 2015, and now a 16', all new.

Comparing all of them together, all comparable packages, this one is my favorite so far. What I don't seem to understand is the inconsistencies between trucks. In general, they have gotten progressively better throughout the years, but this one ( for example) the rear camera is atrocious compared to my others and The paint seems "softer". I haven't had it long enough yet to make a full comparison, however it generally seems tighter. The transmission and throttle response seems better, and the fit and finish seems better. I've experienced a lot of the common problems that others have complained about, but generally this one seems to be the best Ive had.

I've had the vibration, the soft throttle, the poor tires, the poor headlights ( the new HID's are awesome by the way), the noisey motor, the poor exhaust etc. I just wanted to share my experience from someone whose had quite a few. I just can't seem to bring myself to buy another brand of truck. The Silverado does all I need it to and I love it.

Thank you guys for sharing your experiences as I have learned a ton, and hope to share more myself.

I feel the same way, this 2016 Denali is my most favorite EVER. The 6.2 8spd is a perfect combination I really look forward to turning the key in the mornings. Amazing how far these trucks have come in the last 20 years. On the paint all manufacturers are now utilizing Low VOC water based paints and it simply is not as tough as the solvent based paints from the past. I was really irritated the other day when the wind caught my drivers door and the very edge of the door just caught the edge of a cars mirror, it took a tiny spot of paint off the door edge GRRRRR now I see that tiny spot every time I get in the truck. I guess i will see if I can get some touchup paint.............. I forget about that though when the engine fires and the GM Borla exhaust starts rumbling. Vrooom

I love the inside of my 15 and power of new 5.3 but I do miss some things on my 06 z71. Like...way thicker paint, way colder a/c and real skid plates not plastic shield. And I kinda liked the push button 4wd instead of round nob.

15 z71 funny i feel the same way, Ive had a 14 (problem child) and now a 16, both all terrains, 14 was a sle, 16 a slt, I do love the 16 but when I think of long term longevity I'm scraed, my 05 was awesome, 6 years 2 caliper's, doesnt get any better. these dam electronics worry me, jumped in a buddies 06 the other day and I felt right at home like I never left

I've had new trucks every two years for about 40 years. I always like the newer one better. The only exception was a trailblazer ss in 06, I kept it 3 years my all time favorite. I know it's an SUV but I made an exception for that one. I was in the best shape of my life with that one. They weren't made for off road so I did a lot of walking on pipelines so I wouldn't damage it. Well worth it.

I know what you mean, I had mine for 9 years. I sold it to a guy who lives in my town. I see him every now and then and he loves it. Sometimes I think maybe I should have just keep it.

You can buy the aluminum skid plates to replace the plastic one if you want. I know these trucks should have came with them anyway (especially Z71 models) but they didn't. Do a search on here and you will find a couple of threads on the subject. Got mine for less than $200 on fleabay.

It occurred to me today, something I missed in my 15. The back of the front seats were covered in hard plastic, so my kids can kick the crap out of them and I didn't care. On my 16' they are all cloth, and I'll freak out on my kids if they tear them up.

Really... No more plastic on rear of seats? The plastic is great my kids put their shoes on them and kick. It is nice I just wipe it off. They always get rid of good things.
