I had this issue occur twice within 1 month of owning my new 2017 gmc sierra 1500. Oddly enough, the screen started functioning as normal after restarting the vehicle both times. Try disconnecting the negative battery on your terminal for 15 minutes.

Have had it happen a couple of times with my 2015, but it is intermittent and hasn't really caused me alarm. I suppose if it gets worse, will have it looked at. With all the computer chatter that goes on in these newer vehicles, I attribute the occurrences to just chip cramp.
