Leaking Front Diff

Recommended Posts

Just had my 02 Sierra to the dealer for service, (usually have it done elsewhere but am doing some remodelling for the dealership),and the front differential is leaking where the right axle tube enters the housing. According to the service writers this is a very common problem. Just thought I'd check with you guys to see if anyone else has had this issue. BTW truck has 28,000 miles and is still under warranty.

had the same problem but on the rear axle. I had the truck in for some warranty work, and they found it and told me about it. It was amazing...I didn't think they would fix anything that the truck wasn't in the shop for, even if they noticed it!!

Fluids are all factory spec. I haven't changed anything but the oil. BTW dealer says this a 30,000 mile issue on almost all light duty!

Service Departments at dealerships look for warrenty stuff to do, especially during these "Slower - Economic" times. Remember, GM pays them for all warrenty work. Someone eats the cost, but I can assure u it's not the dealer!

Removed right front axle tube , cleand assembly and reinstalled with new gasket material (liquid gasket type). I'm not sure it was the dealer looking for something to do. The service tech lives across the street from me. And besides I had this done at a GMC heavy duty garage.
