The Desperation Buck

Two weeks in the mountains chasing deer and elk game to an end. Gave the elk a run for the money, but the snow storms weren't even getting them moving down yet from 9200+ feet where they were hanging out. Trying to put a move on them would have been futile given the wind blowing up our back all the time. From there we decided to make one more run at a couple of big bucks we had been keeping our eyes on every day looking for elk. The evening before we left my brother and I still hadn't punched a tag. I saw one of the big guys again and decided to try for him in all of the deadfall. This 4-point didn't get to be that big by being stupid and put the slip on me so I swallowed my pride and took his little buddy that was running with him. You can tell from the look on this old curmudgeon's face that he wasn't extremely happy. The second pic is what I found just forward of his tail and imbedded in his tailbone all healed over so must have been from last year. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

You probably ate that guy by now but " nice buck" bet that arrow was a real pain in the butt! I live on a lake and the Mule deer spend their leisure time eating flowers, lawn and everything but the neighbors pick up. They are so brazen they will not move when i use my front walk and they are ten feet away, often one will chase my Westie in the dog door if she bothers the deer with her barking. Having apple trees in the back yard helps with the deer gatherings, they will even shake branches to get apples to fall.

Congrats, always cool to find old bullets or broadheads in deer and other animals.
