If K-Mart would get some people that knew what they were doing they wouldnt be in this mess.  Last year they shut down one of the K Marts here as they said it wasnt making enough money.  Not that it was losing money....It was not making enough money.  They said they had a profit after bills were paid but they said they didnt make as much as corp. wanted.  68 people lost their jobs and not to mention in a town this size they lost business at their other location for what they did.  Funny thing is also that they were changing it over to a Big K or something as they brought in a ton of new equipment then two weeks later they pack it all up and say they are shutting it down.

Just heard that the one in my town is closing.  Doesn't really matter much to me though.  I've rarely shopped there.  Walmart has it all, right?  The Walmart here just added a full blown grocery store to make it a one stop stopping spot.  Convenient for sure.  K-Mart added some groceries to their store, but it's no competition to the huge Walmart and new Target here.

Ryan,

Glad to hear the GF's store is to remain open.  All of the WV stores are also to stay open.  The deciding factor in the decisions on which store to close is less to with sales and more to do with the age of the store and future renovation/moderization expenses.  Also a big factors in some of the closures are labor expenses and inflated lease terms.

And for you WalMart fans here's a head's up.  If you live in a small town where the two main retailers are Kmart & Walmart, and your local Kmart is closing up soon, take a guess who will be quickly jacking up their prices and screwing their faithful patrons?  Yup!  It's called predatory pricing and Walmart has it down to a science.

But don't worry;  you'll still be getting the cheapest price in town on toothpaste...because Walmart will be the only place in alot of small towns to buy your toothpaste!!

I don't know if any of the ones out here are closing, heck they just opened up a new one in my area.  Walmart has put up a bunch of those "Super" center places out here too.  But one of the few nice things about this big city is that we won't have to worry about Walmart taking over like in small town.  We have a ton of Targets, a few Kmarts, a trillion Walgreens/Savon/Rite Aid/CVS (yes, there is one on just about every freaking corner) stores, another billion grocery stores.  So I always know that I can get a good price on toothpaste anywhere   .  (But big cities still suck)

Anyways, I am glad to hear your girlfriends store is staying open, that is alot of good news for you this week.  Your g/f store is staying open, and you got a new job.  :)
