Sidewayz Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Looking to change from the big tow mirrors to regular mirrors. My wife can't see around them and has almost ran a few pedestrians over. She's short and can't see over or aroun them without a lot of effort. What would I need to swap and are the smaller mirrors power fold and heated?

DL8 and DL3. Based on your signature, I see you have a 2015 Silverado LTZ trim. You'll want to look for the DL3 Mirrors. The DL3 Mirror has the integrated Turn Signals, Puddle Lamps, and Power Fold In. I presume your tow mirrors do the same. Since you have an LTZ trim, this **should** be Plug and Play... but would need more information to be sure. Did you get that truck with the tow mirrors on them from factory or were they added later? The DL8 Mirrors will not have the features above. If you have the ability to take some photos of the door harness connectors for me, I can cross reference this to the schematics. The harnesses between the DL3 and the Tow Mirrors will have a slightly different pinout assignment to allow for extra circuits for things like the Reverse LED, Cargo Lamps, and Courtesy Lamps to function. Here are some sample photos I'll need to help understand if it would be Plug and Play. This is the X510 connector from the door panel harness that connects to the mirror. This is a side by side comparison of two different harnesses. This is the X500 connector from door panel harness that connects in the the door hinge. And this is the X505 connector that connects to the door panel trim itself. An LTZ Truck will have the most optioned pinned harness, so... I presume your existing harnesses you currently have *should* be Plug and Play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sidewayz Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 Wow that's an amazing response!! Yes they are big tow from the factory. I'll have to take some time To get the information. Thank you very much for the information.
pgamboa Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I've spent the last 5 months trying to understand these harnesses and why GM made it very difficult between the trim levels. LOL. When I learned the differences between the LT and LTZ models and the features I were missing, I went on a mission to "figure" this out. . I call it determination perseverance. LOL. So I've figured out; for those of us with LT models with the DL8 Mirrors that want to upgrade to the DL3 Mirrors, how to gain the functionality of the Turn Signals, Puddle Lamps and Power Fold. Your move from Tow Mirrors to DL3 is a little different and since you have LTZ, might be easier for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Boardmember Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Pgamboa - I don't have the question but reading this, I completely appreciate your effort and response.

Thank you very much for the information. If you can take a picture of the mirror itself, I'd like to understand the different features. The knowledge I have on them currently is only based on reading other threads. I know the Tow Mirrors have extra lighting. If you can let me know what each one does and how it behaves, I may be able to start cross referencing. For example, I have heard of a "Reverse LED" light that comes on when you are in Reverse. I also read about the courtesy park lamp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I will have a set of DL3 with harnesses available soon as I have switched to the big ones. Interested in trading? Maybe a little cash with the trade for you? My wife (2016 SLT) and I (2015 SLT) both have the DL3 and are wanting the tow. So two sets of them will be available if interested. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
15GMCSLT Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 It's pretty easy swap. Just harnesses and a little time. Here is a video from someone on the page. Going from the small to tow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

cbrsilv15 Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Power folding dl3's sell it's for 2-300 used. Power folding tow mirrors sell for 800-1k used. You can easily sell yours, get the dl3 and pocket some cash.
