I have a 2015 1500 WT. It didn't come with keyless entry remotes, can I just buy a set off of Ebay and program myself?

Can you add a remote? IF you have power locks, YES you can add a remote. Why? Because you have tire pressure monitors on your truck.. They transmit their data to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). Because that module is present, you can add a factory keyless entry remote. NOW...can you program them yourself? NO. HAS to be done by a dealer with GDS2. Can you add factory remote start? No.

Thanks 15HDriver, I am guessing the remote would probably have to be bought through the dealer? Or could I purchase one online and just have them program it? I'll call the dealership and see what they say.

AU3 ( Electric door lock ) means your truck didn't come with remote keyless entry from factory. Contrary to what's been said previously here you can still get OEM remote start but the kit is very expensive because it includes a hood switch with harness, key FOBs (2), a different RCDLR an AP3 sticker to apply over your AU3 and an activation code, all this has to be done at the dealer or a certified GM shop. They will sync the new RCDLR to your BCM and with the activation will be able to download the proper menus to your BCM to enable these options.

Some different RPO codes for these new trucks. AP3 and AP8 is a 2007-2013 deal. On K2 trucks, if you have AQQ, you can add remote start. AU3 power locks are standard on all K2 trucks. Just to clarify, when I say K2, its 2014+up. You don't need a new RCDLR on K2 trucks. The OP has a 2015. If its got power locks, you can go right into the BCM and add key fobs. I have personally done this on a 2015 1500 WT. The customer was curious if it could be added, but he ended up not doing it because he didn't feel like spending the $$$ for two key fobs and $30 for programming. I took a brand new one off the shelf, went in via GM's GDS2 diagnostics and was able to add them to the truck no problem.

I stand corrected then. Thank You! Now we all know. Did you need a GM activation code like before or the menus are all there?

On the K2 trucks, with GM GDS2 you go into the BCM and simply add fobs. If its a truck that has factory keyless but no remote start, its a hood latch, two fobs and an auth. code that has to be phoned in to GM to change the programming for the truck. Those come in the GM accessory remote start kit. GMT-900 were similar (AP8 to AP3 factory remote start upgrade but those were just key fobs, no hood latch).

So in my 2018 Custom with AU3 code, all I would need is keyfobs and a reprogram from the dealer? I asked the dealership to add keyless entry and they charged me $275 and install a crap aftermarket one.

Newdude - do you know if this is the same on the Express Vans?  I have a 2014 with no key fobs, but with On-Star, Cargo, Duramax if it makes a difference.  AU3 RPO code.  Dealer tried 3 times to order key fobs, 3 button, 4 button (cargo door separate) & 5 button (remote start) and could not get any to pair with the RCDLR /TPMS receiver.  I ran this information and VIN past Dorman when I tried one of their programming modules & fob and they ran the VIN said I am missing the key fob receiver.  But I have TPMS and the receiver is the same part number.   SO..... Do I need a different RCDLR receiver (part number 20863945) and have the BCM reprogrammed to use this new key fob / TPMS receiver?  My dealer doesn't seem to understand this stuff.  They also said just buy an aftermarket remote / alarm.

Aaagh, I forgot to include that.  It's a Express 2500 Extended, Cargo, with the 6.6L Duramax turbo, GVWR of 8,600 lbs. A bit of a rare bird.

    • Ok that confirms the extra quart theme they are still going with which must mean they have noted some initial use more so then some engines and probably the bigger factor in all of this probably isn't the engine so much as its the insane distance or OLM that lulls a lot of the driving public into driving their new vehicle off the lot and not even doing one short interval oil change because the manufacturer doesn't say different and if the dealer follows that logic as well. Selling the rarely needing to be serviced concept seems to go over well with the public that wants to get away with as little as possible for dollars spent on the vehicles maintenance and I bet there are 3.0 engines just like other vehicles out there that never have their oil checked by the owner which goes back to why they probably felt the need to add that extra quart to avoid a costly theme.    Speaking of cutting filters open, it was probably over two years ago now that a youtuber who buys vehicles to do longer term reviews and pulls a fifth wheel through the mountains of Colorado on summer trips and that becomes part of the testing. Anyway he had a GM HD with the 6.6 gas and a Ford 250 with the 7.3 gas at the same time and of no surprise the Ford had more power etc but somewhere along the way in the few thousand miles he put on the truck, he changed the oil and was seeing glitter and cut open the filter and yeah, things were not looking spectacular. The truck about that time or soon after seemed down on power compared to what it had been and then threw some engine code, I expect the cam/lifters were failing and so he brought the truck back to the dealer and made some deal to get out of it as he knew it would sit for months waiting on a new engine as they were so backlogged at the time. He kept the GM for some time after that using it exclusively until he sold it after buying his next vehicle to do a review on. Definitely the filter can tell a story when things are starting to go sideways, but it would be a sickening feeling to cut it open and be faced with an ugly mess like that and be running a magnet through the pleats and the oil on the dirty side of the filter and see all the fines sticking to the magnet.    The dealer may have some ideas based on experience as to where that coolant smell is coming from, I would imagine if they can't find it but its smelling they would put dye in it to they could give it a run cycle and use the black light to see where it pops up, if its a hose connection, water pump, rad or even a head gasket etc.
    • Good looking truck, suspensionmaxx looks like a solid option
    • Thanks for the info, im considering a leveling kit or 4" lift kit.
    • charm.li (website) has the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure for that code, you can use to find what the cause of it is.
    • It’s at the point of amusement. I’m retired I have time. It’s fun seeing people try to convince me I’m using oil. I’m buying oil at the prescribed time. It gets drained and new goes in. Do I add in between, no. My oil doesn’t even get dirty in 5k miles. I don’t even see any drop on the stick. I check in the same place. All is well.
