Security switch.

Hello all.

New to the forums, looking for some advice.

Due to circumstance i now have to park my truck on a street in town that is know for vehicle theft.

As an added layer of protection i was thinking of adding a switch to control the power going to the fuel pump.

In your opinion what would be the easiest way to go about this and could it possibly trip a security feature in the truck.

Any of suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The truck is a 02 sierra 4.8l 4x4 no power options.

If you are worried about your vehicle being stolen by someone getting in it and breaking the ignition with a screwdriver and driving off, Dont be.

The theft deterrent system has been incorporated into the body control module (BCM). The theft deterrent is provided in order to prevent the vehicle operation if the correct key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The ignition key turns the lock cylinder. The cylinder rotation produces an analog voltage code in the Passlock sensor. This voltage code is received by the BCM. The BCM compares the voltage code to the previously learned voltage code. If the codes match, a class 2 message is sent from the BCM to the powertrain control module (PCM)/vehicle control module (VCM). The message enables the fuel injectors.

The design of the Passlock system is to prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine unless the ignition lock cylinder rotates properly by engaging the correct ignition key. The system is similar in concept to the PASS-Key system. However, the Passlock system eliminates the need for a key mounted resistor pellet.

I disagree... If the theft deterrent system is that good, then why is the Silverado the 4th most stolen vehicle in America?

Only advice I have is to make any splices in a location that can be easily accessed by you in the event that the switch craps out.

I don't doubt that seeing as it is one of the highest produced and purchased trucks in the US. But they were not hotwired or cranked with a screwdriver. Continue reading the article. 65% of the vehicles were stolen from dealer inventory by acquiring the keys from the location or towed. 15% were stolen from hijacking. That's 80% of the theft by itself in just those two.

From the article I read:

For 2015, the most stolen vehicles in the nation (total thefts in parentheses)

1. 1996 Honda Accord (52,244)

2. 1998 Honda Civic (49,430)

3. 2006 Ford F-Series (Full-size) (29,396)

4. 2004 Chevrolet Silverado (Full-size) (27,771)

I doubt that 65% of the 2004 Silverado's were taken from dealer inventory.
Now that I think about it, my 2001 does not have a passlock system. It uses a plain old fashion key.
