Spare key

I just started a post about keys also. ---->http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/196615-replacement-keys/

What I have learned that might help you is this: you need a person with a very expensive tool to cut these new keys, some locksmiths may do it, but they will charge you for it. you need to call around and find a reasonable price. You may be able to get one from your dealership for less money, Maybe. No hardware stores seem to have the technology.

The only difference between a "door only" key and one that starts the ignition is programming the chip to the vehicle which is easy to do. you may find a key blank with no chip on ebay, but cutting it will be the biggest part of the cost. might as well get a key with a chip and have it be a fully functioning spare.

My truck came with several spare keys as well as a couple of ready to cut blanks, no idea where they have to be cut though.
