Outside Door Handle Broken

My 2012 Tahoe outside driver door handle broke today. I've read a lot about the bolts in back breaking off and the whole handle coming loose from the vehicle, but that's not what happened with mine. On mine, when you pull the handle like you're going to open the door, there's no tension and when the handle us pulled out there's a loop that looks like it should have a rod or a hook going through it. Does anyone know what up with this? Do I need a new handle? I put the window down and heard something in the door rubbing against the window, so I know something is loose in there. Do I need a new handle or can I repair with existing one? This is a 2012 Tahoe with 97k miles and it does have the upgraded chrome handles.

the actuator rod may have broke or the plastic they use to connect them broke

Ok so that means I need a new handle then?

you may not, pull the door card and you will see what you need

Those plastic retainer / lock clips are know to fail with age as they become brittle. Had to replace both on my Tailgate because i had the same issue as you are experiencing
