Hey guys. I have a 2015 GMC Sierra. While parked in the street someone lost control and hit the rear. The body shop called me yesterday and said they think the frame needs to be replaced not repaired. This seems crazy to me. The truck is new. Only a year old. They want to tear it apart and replace the frame. I feel like it will never be the same. What do you guys think? Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Should I start pushing my insurance for a new vehicle replacement? Let them replace the frame and trade it in? My son drives this truck and I want to know it's safe and reliable. Thanks guys.

If it was that bad, I'd definetly be pushing my insurance company rep to total the truck. Who knows what else they'll find once they start to tear it down.

Do you have any pics to post?

My local GM dealership has replaced the frames on BRAND NEW UNSOLD TRUCKS, so nothing about that even surprises me.

Yes. I feel like I should get a new truck but I know it's going to be a battle. I feel like it is worth it but wanted to see what you guys think. Maybe frame Replacement isn't a huge deal anymore but I feel like my new truck will never be the same once they comp,Evelyn dismantle it.

Right now with the Frame Replacement the total repair is at $12k. The vehicles value is about $35k. So they don't want to total it. It is cheaper to replace the frame. But I'm not even sure that is safe.

The damage didn't look bad in the pics but I'll try to post.

Like I said the pics don't look bad. There is also a little front end damage because my truck shot forward and hit the car in front of me. The hitch is bent down too. I wasn't even there. Also a pic of the car that hit mine do you can see it was pretty hard.

Seriously not safe? It is a brand new frame.... They have no obligation to give you a new truck, it will be fine repaired. Maybe try parking in the driveway or garage next time?

Sorry about your misfortune. I also would prefer my vehicle "totaled" if I was in your position, but a frame replacement is better than a frame repair, imo. It will concern you for a little while after the repair and then will be forgotten. (until time to sell...)

Could be worse. They could straighten it out. If they did that, I could see it "not being the same" but the fact that they want to pop a new frame in, you are basically getting the exact same truck you started with, not some bent up truck that was straightened out. I would drive the wheels off of it if they are doing a new frame.

My brother had his brakes worked by the dealership on in his brand new Ford F-250. Was towing his toy hauler a few days later and lost his brakes. The dealer forgot to tighten the caliber bolts. So yes. I feel once they touch your vehicle it may never be the same.

As far as parking..... my son was at college. Parking lots are completely full so he has to park in the street. Not sure what that has to do with anything.

Yes. I agree with the new frame. I'm just worrying that they have to pull the cab, bed, motor, tranny, rear end, suspension, etc..... I feel like it will be nothing but problems after that.

Thank you. Yeah. Especially since we weren't even in the vehicle. I didn't do anything wrong.

My son drives this truck and we bought it for him because it's big and safe. That's my worry.

Yes it sucks but my friend had a frame replace by toyota dealer because of rust a few years ago and he never had any issues.

Thank you. That's good to hear.

The value and the cost of repair are too far apart. You can try, but it's a long gap to close.

Exactly what I'm thinking.
