Blinking lights

Hello,

I've got a question that the dealers only solution is "bring it in and we'll hook it up to the computer for $75"..

This weekend my battery went completely dead on my 1998 GMC Sierra. After I jump started it everything seems to be working fine EXCEPT for the 4x4 switches.

Now the 2H, 4H, and 4L lights are all blinking and pressing the buttons do nothing.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening or am I just going to have to break down and take it to a dealer?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide..

When my Dad's 2000 GMC's battery went bad, the entire electrical system went nuts. Lights were flashing on the dash, all kinds of crazy stuff. Before you go to the dealer, run by Wal-Mart and have them test out your battery to see if it is still good. Is it the original battery? If so, it's probably time. They will check it for free. It's better than the $75 just to plug in the machine.

my dad's 4X4 indicator lights went out and he had to put another bulb in there. I don't know if that's the case for you or not. Will your truck shift into 4 when you press the button though? Mine had a recall for reprogramming and an encoder motor because the autotrac said it was in neutral when actually in drive and wouldn't shift into 4.

Thanks much for the suggestions..

I ended up following a tip for another error code problem I found. I think it was a post about the a/c blinking.. I disconneced the battery, reconnected it, and walla, no more blinking lights.. :)
