Guys,

I did a search and read alot.

I'm torn between Volant & UPD (NSV) (NSV).

Who makes UPD (NSV) (NSV)? Where can I find it ?

What makes UPD (NSV) (NSV) better then Volant or Volant better ?

Anything you have learned from purchasing, installing and just using these would be helpful.

Thanks for your help!!

UPD (NSV) is short for Ultimate Performance & Design. To go to their website Click here.

I purchased my UPD (NSV) a month or two ago. I am very pleased w/it. I can't say wether or not it's better than the Volant or not, as I have not used the Volant.

My main reason for choosing the UPD (NSV) was that it uses the bottom half of the air box and a flat panel filter (K&N in my case). With that being said, I had future plans of doing the homebrew ram air mod. I felt the design of the UPD (NSV) was more suited for the ram air mod than the Volant. The Voland uses a conical filter element in an enclosed box. My thinking was that it was easier to get air through a flat filter, rather than a conical one, into the intake tube.

The install was fairly simple. The kit came w/detailed instructions. All you need is 2 screwdrivers (flathead & phillips). It did take a little elbow grease to get the gasket on the throttle body. But other than that, line everything up and tighten down the screws

Overall, I am very pleased w/it. Definite SOTP improvement! The Flowmaster loves it!

You can click on the link in my sig to see pics of the UPD (NSV) and ram air mod installed.

BTW- if you end up going w/the UPD (NSV), I would suggest the smoked/clear one! :jester:

Just my .02! Hope this helps! :fume:

Greyghost,

What did it cost ?

Pics look good.

I got in on a GP (Group Purchace) on FullSizeChevy.com. I paid $229 total. $219 + $10 shipping = $229

The normal prices are as follows:

Black $239

Clear $259

Smoked $259

Carbon Fiber $269

Chrome $279

Crinkle Chrome $289

UPS ground shipping is $10

Got that straight off their site. They did not have the chrome or crinkle chrome when I ordered mine. They must be new. :jester:

BTW- Thanks for the comment on the pics! :fume:

Ghost,

Thanks for the info, UPD (NSV) web site had problems when I checked it out. I'll try again.

On the tint for the side windows; what tint did you go with? 25 or 30%

50% is the darkest I can legally go here in Louisiana, so that's what I got. :fume: I would have liked to get it darker but I don't need any tickets esp not for something like tint! :jester:

Would the insurance company raise my rate if I got a ticket for my tint being to dark? Sorry for going off topic, but I think mine is to dark and my rate is high enough already.

Not trying to knock anyone, but cylindrical shaped filters flow superior to flat. I installed the Volant on my 2003 8.1L. The volant does not breath from a closed box. For my applicatoin the Volant breathes through the stock side port at the fender and through a ram-air extension (it's an accessorie add-on) at the bottom. Plenty of fresh-air breathing. The install is very clean and it does look extra extra nice.

For what it is though, I did think it was a bit pricey at $290.00. I've never installed a UPD (NSV) so I can't make a performance comparison. The Volant made take-off from a stand still a little bit more peppier, but it's nothing to write home about.
