Welcome to the site!! If you have been following it for a while, you probably know that this is the best place to be if you on a GM truck. Can you be more specific about your problem? The way I interpret what you said is that you are able to shift out of park with the key in the off position. You shouldn't be able to do that. Please clairfy.

Thanks Seadoons...Ok Normal operation is start engine, depress brake, pull lever out of park to drive/reverse..mine half the time will not come out...have to fiddle w/it sometimes ...after frustration sets in ,turn the key to off position ...move shift lever to "n".. turn key on to start, and you can shift back and forth easily.

Hmm, definitely a safety concern there if the interlock isn't working properly. I'm not sure if the dealer would be willing to give you any assistance on it or not.

this happened to a 93 chevy van my neighbor had. She actually started to stress crack the gear selector. Took it in for service and supposedly they adjusted something. Problem came back. After looking at it, the steering column cover was slipping and would physically block the gear selector. after spinning it, you could shift fine. She was also putting it in neutral before starting and that would spin it on it's own. Took it back to the service shop with the new idea to fix and they either tightened it or replaced it.
