2010 chev w/ 40k miles check engine light & service stabilitrak me

I have a 2010 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 truck that has not been off road unless you count the boat ramp. It just turned over 40k miles. I bought this truck new and it still looks like a brand new truck. We were driving last week and the check engine light came on but it ran fine. We stopped by an auto store and had them plug it in and they said we had a misfire on the #4 plug. We decided to drive it and see because it was running fine. Obviously we don't drive this often. Saturday we were driving an 1.5 hours to buy some windows and while driving down an expressway the service stabilitrak light came on. A few miles down the road it starts running very rough. We were headed another hour on past there to drop off the windows at our cabin. We ended up turning around because the truck started shifting so hard I was worried about the windows breaking. By the time we got back home, the truck idled terribly. We started researching and have found this is a common problem for this year model of chevy. We have always used non-ethanol fuel in this truck even though it is rated for ethanol. We have found a long list of things that it might possibly be and an unbelievable number of people with this problem that has never been solved.

Has GM found the fix for this particular problem yet? And if so what is it? My brother owns and auto repair shop and I work at a tech center with an auto repair program either place will work on it for free so I am definitely not going to pay a dealership to replace things since it is no longer under warranty.

Sounds like the issue I saw on my 2010 Escalade w/the 6.2. It ended up being the throttle body. If it malfunctions the computer gets all confused and doesn't know what to do.

Codes? I'd be willing to bet you may need the throttle body sensor repair kit, which may be under special policy depending on how many miles you have on the truck. But, if you have a misfire on cyl. 4, I'd maybe investigate that first.

That's a good idea to check. I've heard of some battery issues that caused some odd stuff. If you have the OE battery, I would replace that as well. I run a gel type battery in our '07. It may be wise to check the alternator to make sure there isn't a bad diode.

Maybe a bad Throttle Position Sensor (drive by wire) in the front of the throttle body. There was a TSB and a letter that went out to the owners on the ones that were supposedly bad, for free replacement.

Either that or you are having problems with the infamous AFM (8 cylinders down to 4 cylinders) system; misfire usually indicates oil-fouled spark plug caused by AFM problems. Also could be bad AFM valve lifter(s).
