'96 1500 Pickup

How's it goin fellas? I'm Jeremy Perez, I'm 19 years old, and I'm from Fort Worth, TX.

To start things off, I am not a car/truck guy by any means. Not now at least. I've liked cars all my life. I played all the Need for Speed Games growing up and all but that's about it. Never really got a chance to fully get into cars.

About a year ago, my step-dad handed over the keys to his old work truck, which is the '96 Silverado 1500 that I drive. It's a cool truck that I think has lots of potential. I've been thinking about selling the thing and try to get a 03'-08' mustang but I've finally decided I wanna fix her up.

Since I know nothing about cars, I decided to turn to this forum for help. I'm absolutely clueless. Everything there is that I need to know is gonna have to be spoon fed to me. I'll try my best to answer any and all questions.

So moving on to the actual truck. All I know is she's a '96 1500. I believe its a v6. Has 249k miles. Gages aren't accurate at all. As soon as I hit roughly 60mph the truck starts to struggle and I really have to step on it to get past that. On top of that, the entire front of the truck starts shaking and vibrating when I do get past 60.

I really think I should hit the mechanical issues first rather than interior, tires, rims, etc. I feel like if I don't start working on her now, she'll just end up dying out.

So that's about it. Any and all help/feedback will be appreciated.
