Please excuse the choppy title. Here is the latest update on the seizure of GM assets in Venezuela by the failing country's judiciary last week. According to the publication, The Street, GM handled its nightmare of a human resources and public relations situation in an interesting way. First, the company "fired' all of its 2700 by text message to officially break off ties with the folks it had previously employed. However, next, it direct-deposited severance pay into their accounts. An interesting, and respectable way to move towards an end to its involvement there.

I find it intriguing.. Prayers to all the folks in that country that have to deal with the cowards running that government.

it sucks that GM had to pretty much end all operations there, but the way things are there now (the country being on the brink of economic collapse, and their government taking the first steps on the slippery slope to becoming a totalitarian dictatorship) it was likely for the best.

It was only ten years ago when their gas was virtually free and they paid little if any taxes. After Hugo passed things really went for shit! Not that he was a great guy either! May not be fair to say but most Central and South American countries are run in a fashion of who can pay off who to get what they want.

Yeah you are right, all politicians are crooked! Clintons and Gore are probably the best examples for sure!

Firing by text was the right thing to do as well. Not like they had a business the employees could go to and sign papers anymore after it was seized. Even if they could, it would be kind of rude to make them all come in for a pink slip.
