LED for front running lights on tow mirrors

I saw a pic where one guy switched out the amber bulbs to white led strips that switchback to amber for turn signals etc.

 

Anyone done this?

I don't care for the bright amber running lights

Just a small switchback led strip. Klearz will have the clear lenses for the mirrors. Good products there. I have them on my headlights.

I've been thinking about changing out the amber reflectors on my headlights as well but was a little afraid of taking the headlights apart. How difficult was it to get them apart, or more importantly, back together and sealed properly?!

It's not too bad. The hardest part is cleaning the permaseal out of the channel once they're open, so you can apply a nice thick strip of butyl. I used the retro rubber from TRS. Haven't had any issues.

Did you follow the heating instructions outlined by Klearz or just cut them apart? How long did you let them set before you reinstalled them?

Ya I saw Klear lenses pics of the switchback led setup.. what gave me the idea. I got the clear lenses from them.

The ship installed the mirrors without doing the leds I asked them to do and then said it couldn't be done, then said it was illegal, etc lol.

Sounds like they forgot huh?

Id love to hear from peeps that have done it

I've heard from some other people that it was illegal but everywhere I've looked it said as long as the light itself blinks amber and you can see it then your fine (at least in TX). If someone else has different info I would love to check it out.

I baked mine open. 230* for around 15-18 mins. They were extra lights so I took my time. They sat for around a day or two before I installed them again.
