Looking for a smoother ride 2015 2500HD 6.6 turbo diesel OHV.

Greeting and Salutation.

 

I'm new to the forum and I did a couple searches with negative results.

 

I have a 2015 Chevy 2500HD Dura-Max crew cab High Country. I tow a 12000LBS 5-wheel and the truck has the Firestone Rid Rite air bags on the rear axle for leveling. It has a three inch lift kit with straps in the front to keep the shocks from over extending. (Not sure of the kit because it came with the truck). I've been told to lose the straps to let the shocks extend more due to the fact I don't rock crawl, or 4wheel.

 

I love the truck but the ride is equal to a 1983 sports car (really tight and rough) I am looking for recomedations of how I can get a better ride, different shocks, or what ever you guys think.

How much air pressure are you running in the bags?

I keep them at 40psi (off) if I'm not towing. If we are hitched up I run at 75-80 level. It rides a little bit better with the 2300lbs on the axels. Seems like its all in the frontend.

I would see if you can do something about the "lift" on the front. I would bet the torsion bars are cranked up to high heaven and are much of the problem.

Drop the bags to 5psi, I was carrying more than 2500 pounds level at 40psi.

Yes drop the air pressure in the bags & get rid of the lift in the front unless you need it. Does your truck have the Z/71 package?

Stock they do ride harsh & stiff, but then again they are built for hauling heavy loads to get the job done.
