2007 Tahoe 5.3 Flex

I have an 07 Tahoe LT with 5.3 Flex Engine that dropped a drop down lifter. Dealer talking replacement of engine at $6,500 for engine and labor. Should I go that route or look for some to install either a Crate engine or rebuild current engine. Wanting to see if others had this issue and what they decided to do. Thanks in advance.

I had a lifter fail earlier this year and I purchased the AFM-DOD delete kit from Texas Speed and Performance...kit included 16 non-AFM lifters, non-AFM cam, ARP head bolts, ARP crank bolt, head gaskets, valley cover, and cam gear and ARP bolts for $650ish, purchased a handheld tuner for $300, and had everything installed along with a new oil pump at a local shop for $2200. Right at $3200 for everything and engine runs better now than before and I get better gas mileage than I did with the AFM
