Suspension - Towing 2016 Sierra 1500 Elevation

Hi Guys,

 

I would like to know your input on what i could do to improve the suspension on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Edition/V8 Vortec 5.3L.

 

First off , I'm pulling a travel trailer that weights about 6400LBS dry ... depending on where I end up going it could go up to 7300LBS or about.

 

It's usually me the wife & the kids and obviously full tank of gas. That being said , i have installed Timbren SES on the back rated at 6000LBS.

 

I like how the truck sits with those on , however I still get a pretty bad porpoising effect, I mean it has improved with the Timbren on but I still have the effect ( I know I wont eliminate all of it since I'm pulling lots of weight, I get that.) but I'm mostly looking to see what I could do to improve and that's why I'm asking the best people in the world to inform me, GMC Owners.

 

So, today I came back from a trip and I weighted myself, truck 3 kids, wife and trailer : 13 310LBS ... I wanted to unhook the trailer and weight myself and calculate the difference, but wifey was too tired and did want none of this.

I have a Weight distribution hitch, bars rated at 1000LBS. I also feel that the weight might be too much on the rear axle, then again I am uncertain on what i should fiddle with to transfer the weight t the front.

 

I have never pulled that much weight before, I've pulled a lot of trailers but mostly with quads or skidoos on em... so this pulling a lot of weight is new to me.

 

 

Please enlighten me !

 

Anybody that sees this and has a clue on what I could change or improve, please reply.

I have not towed yet, but haul a lot. I have air ride air bags. Worth every penny. They sell a hitch ball with a built in tongue scale. I'm gonna order one of those, easiest way to ball park your tongue weight
