Fox 2.0, bilstein 5100, stock w/ level on a 2017?

So guys, just picked up my 2017 Sierra slt max tow.

Looking for to do a 2" front and 1" rear level, but possibly change the way I go about it. I had a 2.5 front/ 1" rear motofab kit on my 2015 z71, but combined with the Ranchos, it did get stiff, and I ran into where it would get "loose" over rough surfaces.

With this, I'd like to, hopefully, improve my ride quality, while lifting it around 1.5-2" up front, and possibly a block in the back (I would like to keep a little rake on this one).

That being said...i was leaning towards fox with having coils matched to the shocks (vs using stock ones with 5100s), but also don't know how the max tow shocks will work with a puck spacer (as far as ride quality) . The max tow shocks feel almost as stiff as the Ranchos I had (considering my '15 had load range e tires, they may be).

Anyhoo, if anyone has opinions, throw them my way!

I'd like to stay under 1k, so the 1500 from the kings are out, etc.

Thanks!

Are you looking for a larger tire size, or just leveling for looks?

My own opinion: it's a slippery slope.

I had a spacer kit on a previous truck, and it rode like garbage. Will never go back.

I'm sort of in the same boat as I'd like to put larger tires and improve the suspension over the stock Ranchos. 5100s have mostly good reviews from those who have gone down that road.

FoxShox also have mostly good reviews from what I've read, but add an additional price point.

Then you consider your UCAs and the stress of new angles on ball joints. Might as well upgrade those too, to accommodate.

At the end of the day, the only way to do it is to do it right. Proper shocks and suspension components. That may mean Kings, Icons, or Fox, UCAs, etc.

My own thought lately, is it really worth thousands of dollars just to have my truck look a certain way? And that's why I'm still driving a stock Sierra. (Aside from a morimoto headlight & rigid fog, upgrade. That's worth it's weight in gold :))

Just my 2 cents

I am currently running Boss Coilovers at 2.5" with stock 20s on 295/55R20s. Didn't change out the UCAs. No rubbing. The ride is absolutely night and day from the factory ride.

Boss Coilovers are from Halo Lifts. They have been around for years with products for Ford trucks. They recently brought on their line of GM products. They tested for a year or so on their shop truck. Their coilovers come set at 2" of lift. You can make adjustments up to 3" of lift if you want. I will provide a link to their website and a link to their ultimate kit. They also have been working Total Chaos UCAs which I will also provide a link too.

I spent a lot of time researching like you I am sure. I saw the above thread and called Alex directly. He explained the entire company background to me and the entire testing process of the Boss Coilovers on their shop truck. I was sold once I spoke with him for nearly an hour. I am glad I made the choice of Boss Coilovers and I don't think you will be disappointed either.

I bought Fox 2.0 front coilovers and fox 2.0 rear shocks, with a 2" rear block to replace the stock 1".

My total came out to ~$1k and I installed myself (fronts took a month+ to get in, the rears were delivered in 2 days). Price included front end alignment afterwards.

It raised the front end 1.5" and the rear 1". No requirement for new UCAs either.

Also drives significantly better than stock, no feeling like you're sliding off the road when you hit rough areas, more planted. Don't have to worry about a spacer level either.

You sure you don't work for Boss or get perks for marketing? Been seeing your same post over and over.

I plan on running a little beefier tire. Maybe not a larger one (though I did like my 33s) but at least an all terrain like the Cooper atp. Not a fan of stock goodyears

Might void suspension components... But that's why I'll just keep the stock ones. Replace and send in

I'd just disregard him. Read the link about the warranty, as it does pertain. But it's not as black and white.

And what size wheel do you currently have? 18s you can easily run 275/70/18. 20s you can easily run 275/60/20. Both are 33s.

Cooper ATPs are nice, I'm personally a fan of Duratracs or KO2.

Let's just say I'm in the industry (mechanic) and have friends at multiple dealerships. I get the ins and outs of warranty and repairs and dealerships. I understand.

Now, could we get back on topic a bit? Best way to improve ride and lift the front 2"?

And fwiw I have 20" wheels.

Not all affiliated with Boss. Just simply letting people know that I am really happy with my choice of Coilovers. They are cheaper than most and the quality of product is outstanding. The reason you have seen the same post TWICE now is because I simply copied and pasted so I didn't have to type it all out again.

1990dtgl98, if you are looking for a quality 2" lift I would highly recommend you giving Boss a shot. Give Alex a call and talk to him about the product. I did and was blown away with all the information he provided to me. Like I mentioned before their coilovers come set at 2" and can go up to 3" if you later desire more lift.

I can assure you he does not work for us.... or receive any perks from us....just an honest guy. We thank him for that.

    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because it’s in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?

    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
