I started to look up how to reprogram my remotes on my 2003 Sierra. So far I found what I think to be the answer you need the Tech 2 scan tool. In other words the dealer. That stinks!!! If anyone knows another way please inform me. I am going to post how to reprogram the remotes on the vehicles that I know we can do our selves.

Transmitter Programming

1. Start with the ignition OFF, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. Turn ignition key ON, OFF, ON, OFF. Release power unlock button on the door panel. The locks will cycle once.

2. Hold down the keyless entry transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for 15 seconds. The locks will again cycle once.

3. Repeat step #2 for each additional keyless entry transmitter.

4. Turn the ignition on to exit the keyless entry transmitter programming mode. Programming is now complete.

Transmitter Programming

If they key is in the ON position during the programming procedure, the horn chirp will be disabled, if the key is in the OFF position, the horn chirp will be enabled. The horn will chirp when the lock button is pressed two times.

When reprogramming the remote control door lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters.

1. Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.

2. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter to be programmed until the locks cycle (approximately 10 seconds).

3. Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if available). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors within 2 seconds.

4. Remove the ground applied to the DLC.

5. Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter operation.

I hope someone can use this info :puke:

You should be able to program them the same on an 03+ as 99-02.

Method 1 - No Tools Required, Program All Transmitters

Important

All transmitters which are to be recognized by the PDM must be programmed in a single programming sequence. When using this program method, all previously programmed transmitters will be erased upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter.

The order in which the transmitters are programmed will determine its numbering position within the PDM memory. The first transmitter programmed will be transmitter #1, and the second transmitter programmed will be transmitter #2. The number stamped on the transmitter case is for reference only; #2 can be programmed as #1, or vice versa. Additional unnumbered transmitters are also available.

Close all the vehicle doors.

Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.

Press and hold the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.

Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.

Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.

Repeat the previous step to program up to 4 transmitters.

Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter programming mode.

Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

My car was real easy...........

Walk up to the car and hold down lock and lock while pointing at the car.......... 15 sec later you hear Pop and the doors lock. Press un-lock and your re-programed.

Now would this work on a new one........ Probably not

Aer you guys referring to reprogramming after changing a battery n the transmitters? I just replaced one of mine, and need to reprogram it. Guess I could just give it a shot, I got one that works right, or will that make my now functional remote worthless?

No I am not referring to resetting your remote after changing the battery. Which is holding down the lock and unlock for 15 sec and hearing the locks cycle... I am talking about adding extra remotes or replacing the original remote. :puke:

stlmaj, what are you talking about when you say to ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector when re-programming a 1998 sierra? I don't know what a dlc is.

If you look under your dash you will see an electrical connector that has numbers listed on the connector next to where the wires go in. This is the DLC. You may recognize it as the place where they hook up the scan tool. Just jump the wire from pin4 to pin 8. Also do not use this method on the new body style as it will blow a fuse! :)

I will try the method for the 2000 sierra described by GnatGoSplat and will post the results here later. I am curious if the new remote will be listed as a driver 3??? That would be cool!!!!!!

Thanks

I have the GM Service Manual on CD's for GM's form 1980 to 2003 and it doesn’t list doing that for the 03's it said to hook up the scan tool? Do you have the paper back manuals? Or maybe I somehow overlooked it. I also couldn’t find the method spelled out the same on the 1999, 2001 or the 2002? I will be checking it out on my 03' in the next couple of hours and will let you know how it turns out

Thanks

OK here is what I came up with the extra remote I bought for my 00’ Sierra doesn’t seem to want to let me program it to the 03” truck. :) It did reprogram the remotes that came with the truck the way that GnatGoSplat said it would. :)

Thanks for the info
