Cargo lights on while driving

Is there a way to bypass my cargo lights to where I can operate them from the switch while I'm driving? When I haul at night I like to be able to flip my lights on so I can make sure everything is still secure. It's almost pointless for me to only be able to operate them in park or neutral. I know about the reverse mod with the diode, I'm just not interested in them turning on when the truck is in reverse. I would like full control whenever I want.

Something else to keep in mind, in some states it is illegal to turn them on while driving, hence why they are setup to turn off automatically out of Park or Neutral.  Check your state's vehicle codes/laws.  In CA, it's illegal to have rear-facing white on while driving.  I'm sure that you can use a diode to jump from the interiors to the cargo light, but it may be hard to see with the interior lights on.  As for a separate switch, it's possible, wouldn't be any more difficult than throwing a switch in the bed for your cargo/bed (under-rail) lights.  You would have to research where the relay is for turning off the cargo light when your transmission is out of Park or Neutral. 

 

I have my cargo lights tied in with my reverse lights, and my cargo light indicator (in the truck) comes on when I put the truck in Reverse.

I'm not so much concerned with the state laws. I'm not planning on running down the interstate with my cargos on the entire time. All of my previous trucks were not setup this way. There was a switch for cargos only that worked regardless to what gear or which way the truck was moving. I would rather just use the factory cargo switch but do away with all the b.s about it having to only be in park or neutral.

I understand what you are wanting to do, but even the momentary use of them are illegal in some/most states. 

 

Maybe this thread will spark an idea for what you want to do.  There's a PDF in the last post on the thread linked below, or at least when I was reading it a moment ago, it was the last post.
