Grinding noise.

Hello

I have a 2005 Silverado 4x4, 6.0 gas, 4/10 gears in the rear, with a locking rear. Everytime I’m stopped and start to take off I run first gear and it seem that right before I hit 2nd it starts to make this grinding noise directly underneath me. It does this in 2wd, I haven’t been able to get the truck to do it in 4wd though. It’s been getting progressively easier to make the noise, the transmission doesn’t feel like it’s lagging though.

Sounds like a transfer case issue.  Especially if you cant get it into 4WD

It shifts into 4wd but it doesn’t make the grinding noise in 4wd only in 2wd

What is the fluid levels & condition of your drive line? I.e. front/rear diff, trans, transfer case.
